Saturay named America Cooks with Chefs Finalist

Jonathan Saturay, local Seattle native, was featured at the 2015 Clinton Health Matters Initiative (CHMI) conference as a finalist of the America Cooks with Chefs Challenge. “My heartfelt thanks and most sincere gratitude goes to Chef Maria Hines, the Clinton Foundation, James Beard Foundation, and all the sponsors for the opportunity to participate in America Cooks with Chefs,” says Saturay.

America Cooks with Chefs paired six contestants with James Beard Award winning chefs from all over the United States to inspire people to cook healthier. Contestants presented their dishes at the 2015 CHMI conference in La Quinta, California. “The goal of the contest is to empower families with the essential ingredients to cook and eat healthier,” says Ginny Ehrlich, Chief Executive Officer of the Clinton Health Matters Initiative at the Clinton Foundation.

Saturay was paired with local Seattle Chef Maria Hines, owner of Tilth, Golden Beetle, and Agrodolce. Together they created a healthier version of Chicken Adobo, a Filipino comfort food that is “very near and dear to my heart,” says Saturay. “Making change in our health starts by taking small steps and Maria helped me make just a few simple tweaks to make this dish healthier.”

Afterwards, Saturay reflects “Let's take culturally relevant meals, foods that people eat every day anyway, and help them make a few healthier tweaks. We know that small, daily, positive changes in our diet can lead to a large investment in our health over time.” ”I challenge you all to go home and cook some chicken adobo. From my crazy Filipino family to yours, I know you'll love it.”

Saturay grew up in Renton, is the Staff Coordinator for Seattle School’s All City Marching Band and serves as the Operations Director for Beecher’s Pure Food Kids Foundation where he has dedicated himself to empowering kids to make healthier food choices for life. Saturay will be heading back to New York City to continue his efforts of eating healthier while also empowering thousands of New York City kids.
